Your photo is one page of the file

Most refusals are decided before anyone reads your case.

You have just checked your photo against the rules, down to the millimetre. The rest of your file is checked the same way, by the same kind of person, against rules that are just as published — and almost nobody checks it first.

  • A passport five weeks short

Schengen wants three months of validity after you leave, Canada six months from the day you travel. Both are subtraction, and both are checked before anyone opens your file.

  • A statement in your maiden name

The bank says one name, the passport says another, and nothing in the file explains the gap. An officer does not have to assume the worst to set it aside.

  • Insurance that ends a day early

Article 15 wants EUR 30 000 of cover for the whole stay. Cover that stops the day before your return flight is not cover for the whole stay.

None of these are close calls. They are arithmetic, and they are settled before an officer forms a single opinion about you.

And the fee does not come back.

“The visa fee … shall not be refundable”

Regulation (EC) No 810/2009, Article 16(2)

“You will not get a refund of the application fee if … your application is refused.”

gov.uk, Standard Visitor

EUR 90 for Schengen. GBP 135 for the UK. USD 185 for the United States. CAD 185 for Canada, once biometrics are counted. You pay it whether they say yes or no. The only part you still control is whether you spent it on a file that was ready.

A refusal does not stay in the country that issued it.

Canada asks every applicant to declare whether they have

“been refused a visa or permit, denied entry or ordered to leave Canada or any other country or territory.”

IRCC, Guide 5256 — Applying for a Visitor Visa

Or any other country or territory. A Schengen refusal this spring is a question you answer on every form you fill in after it — and answering yes means explaining why, to someone who was not there.

What the review checks

Upload up to twelve documents. It reads them, checks your passport dates against the rule that applies to your application, works out which required documents are missing, and compares the names across every file. Every finding quotes the article it comes from, so you can check the claim instead of trusting it.

What it will never tell you

That you will get the visa. Nothing can, and you should be wary of anything that says it will — a visa is a discretionary decision made by a person. This tells you what your file does not yet show, while there is still time to fix it.

Schengen · Canada · United Kingdom · United States

The gaps in your file are free to see. You pay only for the full report, and there is a 30-day money-back guarantee.
