The Government of India's OCI service requires a square JPG or JPEG. The image may be 200×200 to 900×900 pixels, must stay under 200KB, and should show the face occupying about 80% of the frame.

- Plain light-coloured background, not pure white.
- Front-facing head and shoulders with the full face visible.
Why OCI Uploads Fail
The portal can reject an otherwise clear portrait when the file is rectangular, the face is too small, the background is pure white, or compression pushes the image over 200KB. Resize and compress only after establishing the square crop.
