The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICA) and Dubai's GDRFA publish a 40×60mm photo for UAE passports, with the face filling 60–70% of the frame. Emirates ID and visa applications use the smaller 35×45mm format.

- Background: plain white. No shadows, patterns, or colour gradients.
- Head height: 36–42mm chin to crown (60–70% of image height).
- Expression: neutral, mouth closed, eyes open and looking at the camera.
- No glasses, no tinted lenses.
- Head coverings (ghutra, hijab) accepted if worn daily for religious reasons — face must remain fully visible.
- Photo must be in sharp focus with even lighting.
