For a French passport or identity card, the photo must be taken by an approved professional or in a booth using a system approved by the Ministry of the Interior. A photo taken at home on a phone is not accepted, so use this page to know the rules and to check a photo, not to replace the photographer.

France Passport Photo Requirements

These are the requirements published on service-public.fr.

• 35mm wide x 45mm high.
• Face 32-36mm from the bottom of the chin to the top of the skull, about 70-80% of the photo.
• Plain light background such as light blue or light grey. White is not allowed.
• Head bare and straight, neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes fully visible.
• Glasses are optional; if worn, thin frames and lenses that are not tinted or reflective.
• Taken less than 6 months ago.
