The New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) is required for visa-waiver nationals travelling to New Zealand. The photo is submitted through the Immigration New Zealand app or website.
- Size: 35×45mm (413×531px at 300 DPI) — same as the NZ passport standard.
- Background: plain white or very light background.
- Head height: 55–78% of the total image height.
- Expression: neutral, mouth closed, eyes open and looking straight ahead.
- No glasses, no tinted lenses.
- Photo must be in focus with even lighting — no shadows on the face.
Applying for the NZeTA
The NZeTA is available to citizens of the visa-waiver countries — including the US, UK, EU, and many others. It is valid for two years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first.
- Apply via the Immigration New Zealand website or mobile app.
- Upload the photo as a JPEG during the online form.
- Processing is usually instant to a few hours.
- The NZeTA also covers the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL).
